The White River Golden Retriever Club is a member club of the Golden Retriever Club of America. Membership is open to any person interested in encouraging and promoting the care of Golden Retrievers, and doing all thing possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection. Meetings are held monthly and consist of good fun, fellowship and education, and also include field training sessions, obedience and conformation work. However, you need not have a competitive golden to join us! Our goldens are pets and family members first and foremost, and we welcome anyone who shares our love of these special creatures.
If you are interested in more information, please contact our membership chair. She will be happy to send you an introductory letter outlining the activities and objectives of the WRGRC, as well as a copy of the most recent newsletter. Come join us at our next meeting!!
WRGRC began in the summer of 1970. A group of people who had belonged to the Indiana Chapter of GRCA (later becomming inactive) joined together and held an election of officers and board members for the new "White River Golden Retiever Club". The club started to have monthly meetings and came up with their name early in 1971. Our first Annual Awards banquet was held in February, 1972. We managed to put on the required matches and activities to become AKC and GRCA recognized within a very short time. We hosted our first GRCA Central Region Specialty in 1975. We began to hold licensed specialty shows in the mid-70's, as part of the Associated Specialty Clubs based around Indianapolis. We did this for a few years but then felt we could handle putting on independent specialties and have never looked back. We have also hosted Central Region Specialties in 1981, 1990, 2000 and 2004. Our biggest event was hosting the GRCA National Specialty in 1979, back when it was only 5 days long!
We continue to be a very active club with monthly meetings. About half of these are outdoors and we bring our dogs. We have various activities or programs planned and have great pitch-in meals! Other activities are an annual WC/WCX test, awards banquet, several indoor winter meetings with special programs, and our specialty show has turned into back-to-back specialties in May. We have around 100 members, with a core group of active members closer to 40.

Come find out what awards are available to WRGRC members and their dogs, as well as learn a bit about the awards' histories. Some of the awards have been around for over thirty years and continue to go strong. Whether they are for agility, conformation, field, obedience, tracking, or some combination, there may be a WRGRC annual award that is right for you and your dog.
